Labradorite Jewellery- Labradorite, The Stone Of Magic
LABRADORITE JEWELLERY AUSTRALIA
This particular member of the feldspar group of minerals is one of the youngest gemstones in the world of modern jewellery, but it is also one of the most powerful.
Labradorite displays an awe-inspiring range of colours both in its polished finish and in its natural rough state, cut straight from the earth. It is found in igneous rocks in multiple locations around the world, but it was discovered in eastern Canada on Paul Island, near the settlement of Nain in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The gorgeous colour glow of Labradorite is so transfixing that it has been revered as the Stone of Magic and the physical form of the great Northern Lights in the rocks of the earth.
A little about the colour of Our Labradorite Jewellery.
The glow of Labradorite is dynamic and appears or travels accross the surface or within the layers of the stone when one of three things occurs:
1) the source of illumination (Light) moves,
2) the angle of observation is changed, or,
3) the gemstone is moved under the light.
This is called labradorescence .
Labradorite is a earthy grey/brown coloured natural gemstone with beautiful vibrant Blue/Rainbow reflections, that has formed in nature and has what some would call imperfections, but this is actually just the layered formation of a natural, genuine gemstone.
These layers are actually what give labradorite their mesmerizing glow.
Man made or lab made gems will not have these.
Labradorescence is observed in pieces of feldspar that contain thin alternating layers of orthoclase and albite. These micron-thick layers of different composition also have different refractive indexes. Light, penetrating one layer after another, is bent, reflected and scattered at the surface of each layer. The scattered light within the stone is what causes the adularescent glow and the beauty of the gem.
Labradorite stones are usually opaque or transparent, so if you own a labradorite gemstone, the colour flash will be far more intense when light isn’t able to shine straight through the gem, for example when placed on your skin or being worn…If your labradorite gem looks grey, earthy brown or transparent, don’t worry, place this gem on your skin, and let the light bring create magic.
So in summary, Labradorite will be a earthy brown/grey colour. It does not have a solid blue colour and these flashes will only occur when light shines on the gem. The layers in the gemstone cause the light to scatter and reflect, creating that labradorescent glow.
