Gift Box's SEPT - NOV 2021

During September-November this year we have experienced a lot of wet and hot humid weather. Unfortunately this has has caused some jewellery that has been stored in our gift box's to start to develop a surface layer of tarnish.

If the gift box was exposed to any hot, humid or wet environmental conditions either during transit, or when stored in your homes, Hydrogen Sulfide (Sulfur), a toxin found in the air, may have contaminated the gift box. We take every precaution possible by selecting anti tarnish materials to make these box's and storing them in a protected environment here, but we cant control what they have been exposed too before we store them, or what they are exposed to on the way to you, or when they are stored in your homes.

This could be as simple as sitting in the hot sun in your mail box or rain. We have also contacted our gift box's manufacturer and are trying to pin point if something happened and have tested the current box's we have in stock, and they are all perfect at the moment, so its hard to tell which batch or which box's were affected so we are asking that everyone check so we can fix with any issues.

Please check your jewellery asap, especially if its been wrapped already for a gift, to check that your items were not affected. We don't want any nasty surprises on Christmas day or when you go to wear your jewellery. We are so sorry!!!!

-Please contact us and we will send you a new gift box asap

-If you are unable to clean the tarnish layer yourself or would rather not, please send it back to us and we will do this for you and send it right back in a new gift box.

We suggest storing the jewellery in a sealed container or in a zip lock bag, and wrapping these as late as possible as our gift box's are not air tight for as long as possible before gifting. 

If you are confused, here is why this may happen to your jewellery.

Our Sterling silver or 10ct won't rust, turn green or perish like cheap plated metals but will tarnish if exposed to hydrogen sulfide (sulfur) a substance that occurs in the air. Tarnish on Solid Sterling Silver or 10ct Gold is only on the surface layer of the metal, and underneath this exposed layer, your sterling silver or gold will be in pristine condition.

This surface reaction can be removed cleaning your jewellery and then your jewellery will be in brand new condition again..

There is a huge misconception that Sterling Silver or 10ct gold shouldn't tarnish and that this is a sign that its not 'real'. This is not true. This is only the case if you cant clean the tarnish layer. You know you have the real thing if its only a surface reaction, and has not caused the whole piece to perish. Sterling silver is an alloy made from 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent alloy. An alloy is essentially the mixture of two (or more) elements. Without this 7.5% alloy, silver is to soft to use for jewellery, so unfortunately its the only way to make the silver strong enough to be worn.

Cheap metals can irritate the skin and result in allergic reactions, making sterling silver a great option for sensitive skin. Inexpensive metals like nickel or brass can cause infections, especially with earrings.

Bottom line: Sterling silver, aka 925, or 10ct Gold is hypoallergenic, high quality, stylish and safe.

The only downside to all sterling silver is that the added copper may cause it to tarnish, with the metal’s surface turning dark brown, black or even some copper coloured staining, especially in wet. humid or hot conditions, or if stored near something toxic in the environment in which it is stored. However, it's easy to clean and beneath the tarnish your sterling silver or Gold will still be in great condition.

Sterling Silver discolours because of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur), a substance that occurs in the air. When silver comes into contact with it, a chemical reaction takes place and a tarnish like layer is formed.

The good news is that sterling silver can last forever if cared for, unlike silver-plated or cheap metal jewellery which will deteriorate no matter what. And even if your 925 or 10ct jewellery has already been spotted with tarnish, a good clean or polishing will easily make it look like new.

The best way to prevent this from happening is to wear your jewellery. The oils from your skin will protect it. Tarnish is much more likely to happen if its not stored correctly.
